Tuskegee Airmen,
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the loss of two valued
Tuskegee Airmen. Earlier yesterday, an OSI Det 2410 convoy was
conducting a mission near Kirkuk AB in support of the 506 Air
Expeditionary Group when the convoy was struck by a roadside IED. OSI
Special Agents Ryan Balmer and Matthew Kuglics were both killed as a
result of injuries sustained during the attack. Mr. Kava Ari, an OSI
linguist, was injured but is in stable condition. SA Balmer and SA
Kuglics were exceptional warriors and Airmen who died while protecting
over 5,000 Airmen and Soldiers assigned to the 506 AEG and Kirkuk AB.
They are both heroes. Ryan is survived by his wife and three children.
Matt is survived by his mother and father. The 332 AEW will conduct
Memorial services at Balad and Kirkuk in honor of these two fallen
heroes later this week. The date, time and exact loaction will be
announced as soon as possible. The Balmer and Kuglics families, the
entire OSI community in Iraq and across the USAF, and all of us in the
332 AEW will mourn the deaths of SA Balmer and SA Kuglics. Please
remember all of them in your thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks
ahead.

Robin Rand, Brig Gen, USAF
